More about Equine
Sports Massage
Although Equine Sports Massage Therapy
appears to be a relatively new phenomenon,
it is not. Historians have noted that
massage therapy for horses dates back
thousands of years to the Greeks who would
massage their horses and warriors prior to
going into battle.
In the late 1970's, Jack Meagher, began to
apply his massage techniques to
thoroughbreds and soon became a valuable
member of the US Equestrian Team.
In 1989, Mary Schreiber, a student of Jack
Meagher, founded EQUISSAGE, INC., a
certification program for Equine Sports
Massage Therapists based in Round Hill,
Virginia.
Since that time, Ms. Schreiber has certified
thousands of massage therapists from all
over the country and at least 19 countries
around the world.
Ms. Schreiber has been featured in "Sports
Illustrated", "Equus" and seen on ABC
TV. Her curriculum concentrates on
those techniques taught by Jack Meagher.
